FIELD: organic chemistry, more particularly synthesis of polyfluoroethanes otherwise called coolants. SUBSTANCE: coolants are prepared in gaseous phase by feeding initial reactants into tubular reactor at fluorine to initial fluoethane weight ratio of 1:2-30. The resulting products are rapidly cooled to temperature of not higher than 300 C for period of 0.1 s or less. The claimed method is simple with respect to equipment employed, is free from waste products and makes it possible to vary composition of the desired products. EFFECT: more efficient method. 2 ex, 2 tbl
