FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: teeth are cut when a cutting tool provided with cutters and shaping cutters arranged along an Archimedean spiral is in continuous rotation. The pitch of the spiral corresponds to the distance between the teeth of a wheel to be cut over the major circumference. To cut a gear wheel two cutting heads whose spiral turns point in the same direction and two heads whose spiral turns are oppositely directed are used. Each head are brought into a contact with the shaping cutter subsequently by convex or concave side of the teeth. The wheel to be cut is then set in tangential movement and respective additional rotation. The concave side of the teeth is cut by a tool the diameter of the Archimedean spiral of which is less than the diameter of the spiral of a tool for cutting the convex side of the teeth by a value of the pitch of the spiral. The radii of the profiling cutters are the same and defined by relationships presented in the invention description . EFFECT: simplified method. 3 dwg
