FIELD: processing of recoverable resources. SUBSTANCE: large particles of exhausted catalyst containing platinum metals and alumina are disintegrated and mixed with at least stoichiometric amount of concentrated sulfuric acid in presence of solid carbon-containing additives. Resultant suspension is heat treated and subjected to aqueous leaching. Leaching solution is supplemented with flocculant, settled, and separated into ammonium sulfate aqueous solution and solid phase accumulating platinum metals.
