FIELD: preparation of catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst contains, wt.-%: calcium sulfate, 15-25; calcium oxide, 5-10; and 65-80 of solid solution of titanium, niobium, and tantalum oxides defined with formula Ti(NbxTa0,06x)O(2+2,5x) where 0.0015 ≅x≅ 0.07. Catalyst is prepared by treating aqueous solution of titanium tetrachloride, niobium pentachloride, tantalum pentachloride, and titanyl sulfate (or sulfuric acid) with suspension of calcium hydroxide taken in a certain excess in respect to stoicheometrically required amount for reaction with chloride and sulfate ions followed by separating catalyst mass, washing away calcium chloride, separating precipitate by filtration, molding, drying, and calcination. EFFECT: increased catalyst activity in hydrolysis of organo-sulfur compounds, simplified catalyst preparation, and eliminated outbursts of nitrogen oxides into atmosphere. 2 cl, 1 tbl
