FIELD: catalysts for production of sulfur by Claus process and methods of its production. SUBSTANCE: catalyst contains oxide component and compounds of alkaline-earth element with additional aluminum compounds used in the form of calcium compounds. Oxide component is used in the form of solid solution of titanium dioxide and niobium pentoxide. Catalyst contains the following amount of components, mas.%: calcium compounds, 1.0-5.0; aluminum compounds, 20.0-55.0; solid solution of titanium dioxide and niobium pentoxide, the balance. Method of catalyst preparation includes treatment of titanium tetrachloride with aqueous solution or suspension of alkaline agent, formation, drying and calcination. Method is distinguished by the fact that treatment of titanium tetrachloride is carried out together with treatment of niobium pentachloride with aqueous solution or suspension of alkaline agent to obtain titanium and niobium oxyhydroxides. Precipitate of titanium and niobium oxyhydroxides is mixed with calcium compounds, and process is conducted under conditions ensuring formation of catalyst. EFFECT: higher activity of said catalyst in hydrolysis of sulfur-organic compounds, increased its strength, lower bulk weight as compared with prototype, simplification of catalyst preparation method due to reduced number of process operations and excluded effluents of nitrogen oxides to environment. 13 cl, 2 tbl, 17 ex
