FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to oxidative purification of oil distillates from mercaptan sulfur and may find use in demercaptanization of gasoline, kerosene, and diesel fractions. Process is carried out by way of treating oil distillates with air oxygen at 80-220 C in presence of 0.01-10.0 wt % of inorganic copper, iron, nickel, or cobalt salt on carbon fibrous material in the form of fabric, felt, or braid as catalyst. Above said carbon fibrous material contains up to 0.03 wt % of calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, zinc, and aluminium oxides. Method increases oxidation degree of mercaptans by 15-35% and allows conducting process for a long period without using alkali and with no loss in catalyst activity.
