FIELD: chemistry of organosilicium compounds. SUBSTANCE: metal magnesium is affected by interaction with chlorobenzene, the process is carried out to isolate magnesium chloride. Said process takes place at 125-140 C, xylene or dialkyl ethers of ethylene glycol or diethylene glycol being used as mentioned above hydrocarbon solvent. Quantity of glycol ethers is 0.7-1.2 moles per 1 mole of chlorobenzene. Then thus obtained phenyl magnesium chloride interacts with methyl trichlorosilane, the process takes place at 55-65 C, quantity of methyl trichlorosilane being 1.9-2.1 moles per 1 mole of phenyl magnesium chloride. Then magnesium chloride is separated by filtration, desired product being isolated by fractional distillation. EFFECT: improved safety of the process, simplified the process. 3 cl, 1 tbl
