FIELD: organic synthesis, production of perfumery compositions. SUBSTANCE: additional treatment of reaction mass being prepared during hydrolysis of benzyl chloride with the help of tertiary amines or salts thereof. Hydrolysis is carried out in two steps, various concentrations of hydrolyzing agents being used. At the second step 40-25 % of hydroxide of alkali metal is used, ratio of organic phase and aqueous solution of hydroxide is 1:0.1-0.05. EFFECT: improved efficiency.
