FIELD: radioactive waste management. SUBSTANCE: liquid radioactive waste is calcined and mixed with glass frit. The mixture obtained is sandwiched between nonradioactive glass sheets inside a container. Spaces between container walls and the multilayer sandwich are filled with frit. Then the container is heated up to a temperature which is not lower than softening temperature of nonradioactive glass and not higher than its deformation temperature and held at this temperature not more 0.5 h, after which the container is cooled. EFFECT: negligible evolution of gas in the process of manufacturing of glass block because of moderate temperatures of the process; more reliable isolation of radionuclides enclosed in monolithic glass block from environment. 1 tbl, 1 dwg
