FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method is proposed to produce iron-based cast carbon metal without agglomeration of ore and coal coking. Objective of invention is to supplement and partially replace existing agglo-coke-blast- furnace process. Method includes fine disintegration and dozing in required proportion of blend components: iron ore materials, nondeficit carbon-containing fluxing and binding components, their mixing, worm press-assisted briquetting and immersion of indefinitely long argillite ore-coal briquet into iron smelt in induction electric furnace. Invention is distinguished with that process is conducted in closed furnace; gas released from briquet is subjected to afterburning in underroof space with air or oxygen supplied there; and burning heat is radiation-wise conveyed from furnace roof into zone of carbothermal reduction. All this causes full use of calorific capacity and reduction capability of carbon within one assembly, decrease in power consumption to 4-5 Gcal/t Fe, which is comparable with expenses in existing agglo-coke-blast-furnace cycle, and also smelting slag that is insensitive to induction heating with industrial frequency.
