AMELIORATION SYSTEM FOR CONVERTING DESERT INTO PLANTATIONS Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: land reclamation technology. SUBSTANCE: component of amelioration system is tunnel or group of parallel tunnels, foundation, solid walls without any openings made of concrete, reinforced concrete or rubble-stone, concrete floor. Perforated roofing is made in the form of arched dome and its sectional reinforced concrete arches of T-shape cross-section (with slab underneath) are laid in mortar with predetermined beforehand clearance S which is equal to distance between outer side faces with creation of gaps between walls of arches and their subsequent filling layer-by-layer with fractionated gravel with creation of back-flow filter. Laid above back-flow filter is layer of coarse fractionated sand, three rows of large-cell glass cloth, one more layer of coarse fractionated sand, then placed are mats made of moisture-absorbing material such as from cotton processing waste, which are covered by layer of usual sand which is topped by layer of vegetation soil. Walls and bottom of tunnel are made hydraulically insulated. Placed above tunnel bottom are water heating tubes and pumped into them is water of any saltiness which is used for irrigation of cultivated crops planted in vegetation layer of soil.
