FIELD: inorganic sorbents. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing sorbents based on metal oxyhydrates that can be used in hydrometallurgy to produce spectro-pure samples of rare-earth elements, in particular gadolinium. To gadolinium nitrate, alkali is added to pH 8.5-9.0, resultant precipitate is agitated, kept in mother liquor to stabilization of composition at pH 8.1-8.5, and produced gel is filtered off, dried to air-dry state and placed into water, which results in formation of sorbent granules. EFFECT: improved preparation procedure and enlarged choice of sorbents. 1 tbl
