FIELD: transport machine engineering; namely, shaping housing of non-cylindrical cross section tank car from thin-wall shell. SUBSTANCE: shaping apparatus is placed inside shell 15 which is deformed by tension efforts directed from its axis towards inner surface of shell until formation of inner cross contour corresponding to outer contour of rigidity ring. Then the latter is placed inside cavity of shell. Values of tension efforts are reduced for embracing rigidity ring along its perimeter by inner surface of deformed shell. Apparatus includes base member in the form of frame 1, horizontal 3 and vertical 2 shaping members whose translatory rectilinear motion is provided by means of guides 4, 10 and stems 5, 11. Positive motion of members 2 is realized by means of hydraulic cylinders 8 through rods 9, positive motion of members 3, by means of action of rollers 12 of members 2 upon said members 3 through inclined grooves a of plates 13 rigidly connected with the aid of fastening assembly b with ends of horizontal shaping members 3. Nut 6 and washer 7 of ends of stem 5 restrict motion of members 2 from axis and motion of members 3.
