APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING METAL POWDERS FROM MELT Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: powder metallurgy, in particular, manufacture of metal powders from iron, nickel, cobalt or copper base melt. SUBSTANCE: apparatus for spraying melt by centrifugal force has spraying bowl 5, retaining sleeve 10 axially aligned with spraying bowl 10 and supporting member. Shank of spraying bowl 10 is formed as faceplate 6 with central opening. Retaining sleeve 10 is disposed between spraying bowl 5 and shell 11. Supporting member is formed as disk 13 and mounted below spraying bowl 5 on central part of faceplate 6. Shell 11 is mounted on peripheral parts of faceplate 6 and rigidly connected with it. Top part of hollow shaft 14 is secured in central opening of faceplate 6. Cooling unit is formed as annular collector 15 having branch pipes 16 with nozzles 17, whose outlet openings are directed toward shell 11. Spraying bowl 5 is made from zirconium oxide or mixture of boron nitride and silicium nitride. Faceplate 6 may be provided with concentric upper projection 8 and lower projection 9. Upper projection 8 is spaced from edge of faceplate 6, its inner wall is in contact with inner wall of shell 11, and lower projection 9 is positioned adjacent to central opening of faceplate 6 so that it embraces top part of hollow shaft 14. Outer wall of spraying bowl 5, inner and outer walls of retaining sleeve 10 and inner wall of shell 11 may be made conical. Working tool of apparatus is adapted for 6-8 cycles of melt spraying.
