FIELD: synthetic rubber, electrotechnical industrial rubber industries, and manufacture of plastic lubricants. SUBSTANCE: low molecular weight 1,2-polybutadiene is prepared by polymerization of butadiene-1,3 in toluene at 30-80 C and concentration of butadiene-1,3 within 10-50 wt % by successively adding n-butyl lithium in amount of 6-40 moles per 1 ton of monomer, compound selected from the group consisting of diethylene glycol dimethyl ester, permethylated polyethylene polyamines, dipiperidine ethane, tetramethylene diamine at molar ratio of 0.5 to 2,0 thereof to n-butyl lithium, the whole is maintained for: at least 2 minutes and potassium tetrahydrofurfurylate is then added at potassium to lithium atomic ratio from 0.05 to 0.25. The claimed invention makes it possible to obtain polybutadiene having high content of 1,2-units (more than 60 %) at elevated temperatures and more efficient process, and to reduce the amount of 1-phenylpentene-3 by-product.
