METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MULTILAYER COVERAGE OF LONG-LENGTH MATERIAL Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: protective coatings. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns covering long-length metal materials, mainly tape or wire. Method consists in application of different layers of coating by way of continuously displacing material in vertical direction through several in-serial connected baths with different molten coating materials, while temperature and treatment time are controlled by way of adjusting temperature and/or level of coating material melt in each bath. Long- length material, after applying each layer, is cooled at temperature equal or below temperature of solidification of most low-melting component of previously applied layer. Apparatus contains several, disposed in stacked arrangement, containers with feeding through channels equipped with magnetohydrodynamic seals and devices for controlling temperature and/or molten coating material in each container. Apparatus has an additional coating-applying container, guide roll, and mill for rolling coated long-length material. EFFECT: improved quality of coating due to controlling diffusion processes when applying coatings and more efficiently affecting thickness of intermediate layer and its adhesion. 9 cl, 4 dwg
