FIELD: protective coatings. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing coatings of refractory metals via chemical crystallization from gas phase, in particular, for protection of structural materials against corrosion and may be used in quantum electronics area for e.g. manufacturing optic elements of high-power lasers. Method includes decomposition of iridium tris-acetylacetonate vapor fed to heated carrier in mixture with inert gas, temperature of carrier being 300-330 C , gas-vapor mixture being supplemented with 4-25 vol.% of oxygen, and inert gas being preheated to 160-210 C.
