FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is improved method of carbonylation of alkyl-aliphatic alcohols and/or reactive derivatives in the presence of iridium catalysts. Method comprises contacting alcohol and/or reactive derivative thereof with carbon monoxide in liquid reaction mixture comprising (a) iridium catalyst (b) alkyl halide, (c) water having concentration from 1 to 15 wt.%, (d) promoter selected from group consisting of cadmium, mercury, zinc, indium and tungsten. Method makes it possible to increase carbonylation rate, and when used, to reduce formation of volatile compounds. EFFECT: more efficient carbonylation method. 12 cl, 6 tbl
