FIELD: aids testing, measuring and controlling technological processes in metallurgy, measurement of area of rectangular cross-section of ingot on continuous billet casting machine. SUBSTANCE: two independent sources of light positioned above ingot illuminate space above ingot is sequence. Shadow from its upper angles falls on collimators located on both sides. Information on boundaries of illumination goes through photoelectric converters, decoders and encoders from both collimators into calculator where coordinates of upper angles of cross-section are calculated by formulas, then they are used to calculate cross-section area. EFFECT: usage of this gear to measure cross-section area of ingot makes it possible to stabilize masses of cut ingots. 2 dwg
