FIELD: gold recovery. SUBSTANCE: invention deals with adsorption technique to prepare activated carbon with elevated mechanical strength and adsorption capacity necessary for isolation of gold from cyan solutions. Method includes mixing of crushed coal material, tar binder, and additives of boric and phosphoric acids in quantity 0.3-2.0 wt %, granulation of mixture, thermal oxidation of granules within temperature range 60 to 300 C, carbonization of granules at 650-700 C, and their activation at 800-900 C. EFFECT: essentially increased mechanical strength of carbon enabling its efficiency in multiple-cycle processes. 2 tbl
