FIELD: chemical technology, sorbents. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to adsorption technology and can be used for production of activated carbon with improved indices of mechanical strength and adsorption capacity in treatment of water from hazard substances. Proposed method of production of activated carbon involves impregnation of resin binding agent with phosphoric acid taken in the amount 2.2-6.0 wt.-% at 69-95 C followed by mixing with coal dust, mixture granulation and the following their activation. Method ensures to increase the strength of obtained carbon up to 97% and adsorption capacity (by gold cyanides) and therefore it can be used in yield of gold, silver and platinum from solutions and pulps.
