FIELD: metallurgical and mechanical engineering industries; annealing of electrical sheet steels. SUBSTANCE: the offered method includes supply of fresh protective atmosphere into heating and holding chambers, drawl of spent atmosphere which is supplied for cleaning, cooling and compression. Separation of one part of spent atmosphere is effected from gas bleeder of holding chamber and its return to heating chamber in definite amount. Supply of fresh protective atmosphere to heating chamber is discontinued. EFFECT: reduced total consumption of protective atmosphere for tower-type furnace by 10-12%, potential of spent atmosphere Supplied to heating chamber provides for decarbonization of transformer steel to rated values and equalling CFe= 0.003-0.004 mas.% after completion of annealing process (at furnace outlet).
