FIELD: gas-furnace heat engineering; may be used, mainly, in strand-type furnaces with protective atmosphere for steel annealing. SUBSTANCE: method includes supply of fresh protective atmosphere to chambers of heating and holding. Separation of a part of furnace atmosphere is carried out from holding chamber, and this part is mixed with fresh atmosphere in a definite ratio; content of hydrogen is determined in atmosphere mixture, and additionally supplied to mixture is 1.2-5.0% of pure hydrogen. Preliminarily cooled mixture is directed by means of compressor to heating chamber. EFFECT: provision of attaining the preset properties of metal after heat treatment and reduced consumption of fresh protective atmosphere. 1 dwg
