METHOD FOR DETERMINING COMPETITIVENESS OF PLANTS Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: selection, seed growing and cereal crop research works. SUBSTANCE: method involves sowing crop forms free of contrasting morphological features and crop forms with unstable morphological features; fixing location of seeds of each form on plot. Crop sorts with contrasting morphological features are sown in similar way or mixture of seeds is sown in piece by piece manner in designed ratio, with all seeds prepared for plot being sown. Reproductive value of one generation of specimens of forms under test (Wi) and mean reproductive value of specimens of mixture (W) are determined. Competitiveness of concrete forms of plants (Wi) is evaluated by formula Wi = Wi/W . Plant form with value less than 1 is considered as weak form and plant form with value exceeding 1 is considered as competitive plant form.
