FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves supplying metal to crystallizer; changing ingot width by moving narrow walls of crystallizer; positioning narrow walls of crystallizer at an angle to longitudinal axis of crystallizer; withdrawing ingot from crystallizer. During displacement of narrow walls of crystallizer inclination angle of narrow walls relative to longitudinal axis of crystallizer from initial position is changed by Δγ = ± (0.003-0.006) arctg Δ B1L, where D B is value of displacement of narrow wall, mm; L is length of ingot measured from metal meniscus in crystallizer to its lower end, mm; (0.003-0.006) is empirical coefficient taking into account shrinkage of ingot wide walls and set in reverse ratio relative to speed at which ingot is withdrawn from crystallizer. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of ingots. 1 tbl
