FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: process of continuous casting of metals includes feed of metal into mould and cooling of mould by running water. Consumption of water for cooling of mould is established by dependence $$$, where B is width of ingot, m; H is thickness of ingot, m; V is rate of pulling of ingot, m/min; L is distance from meniscus of metal to lower butt of mould, m; m=(210-320) is empirical coefficient taking into account thermophysical laws of shrinkage of wide faces of ingot, m/h; n=(1.2-1.6) is empirical coefficient taking into account thermophysical laws of shrinkage of narrow faces of ingot, $$$; K is empirical coefficient.
