FIELD: metallurgy, namely continuous casting of metals to rectangular ingots with slab cross section. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of supplying metal to rectangular cross section mold having narrow and wide working walls made of tin- alloyed copper; placing narrow working walls by inclination angle relative to lengthwise axis of mold; drawing ingot with slab type cross section out of mold; setting difference between narrow working walls in their upper and lower ends according to relation ΔB = K.B.L.Sn.C/Vm, where ΔB - difference of distances between narrow working walls in their upper and lower ends, mm; B - distance between narrow working walls in their upper end, mm; L - length of mold,mm; Sn- tin content in copper alloyed with tin, mass%; C - carbon content in cast steel, mass%; Vm - mean working speed of slab drawing for given mold, m/min; K - empiric coefficient characterizing thermophysical laws of slab shrinkage in mold equal to 0.0001 - 0.000044.
