FIELD: electrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: perchloric acid is produced by electrochemically oxidizing molecular chlorine under pressure. Method is distinguished with that electrolysis is carried out without diaphragm under elevated chlorine and oxygen pressure using porous graphite as cathode. Under these conditions, gas hydrogen liberation on cathode is replaced with reduction of chlorine into hydrochloric acid and oxygen into water, which lowers cathode potential. EFFECT: considerably reduced power consumption owing to absence of diaphragm, cathode and anode gas regulator, and lowering cathode potential.
