FIELD: manufacture of high-melting metal monocarbides used as high-porous products of greater purity as filters, absorbents and catalyst supports. SUBSTANCE: polymeric composition comprises (wt%): 61.8-72.8 high-melting metal oxide; 16.3-27.0 phenolformaldehyde binder (by dry resin) and 9.0-15.3 hollow phenol formaldehyde microspheres. Binder to microsphere weight ratio is (1.5-3.6):1. The binder is alcoholic solution of Bakelite varnishes based on resol and novolac type phenolformaldehyde resins. Composition components are mixed, products are pressed after drying and are then carbonized in oxidation resistant medium and heated to 800 C, and carbonization is carried out in vacuum by heating to 1700-2100 C. EFFECT: improved properties. 1 tbl
