FIELD: special electrometallurgy, particular, production of bimetal with use of electroslag technology. SUBSTANCE: the offered method includes placing in mold of metal blank in a spaced relation to one of mold walls. Metal blank is one of layers of bimetallic ingot. Consumable electrode is installed in the gap, slag bath is produced on bottom in gap between mold wall and metal blank. Consumable electrode is remelted in slag bath with formation of melted-on layer of bimetallic ingot according to the invention. Formation of built-up layer according to the invention is carried out at the rate in compliance with relation Vf=3.6x(1-0.3xH1/H2)0.3 (1), where Vf is rate of formation of built-up layer, kg/min; H1 is value of gap between mold wall and built-up surface of blank, mm; H2 is blank thickness, mm; and resistance of bath (R) is taken in compliance with relation R=2.5xB2/B1 0.2 (2), where R is slag bath resistance, MOhm; B1 is electrode width, mm; B2 is blank width, mm. EFFECT: provision of uniform thickness and chemical composition of built-up layer, improved quality of surface of bimetallic ingot with preservation of high quality of layers joint.
