FIELD: special-electrometallurgy, particular, production of mineral with use of electric slag technology. SUBSTANCE: the offered method of production of bimetallic ingot consisting of main and cladding layers includes placing into mold of metal blanks with some clearance between it and one of its walls, being one of layers of bimetallic ingot, bringing of slag bath on bottom plate in clearance between mold wall and blank, and melting in this bath of consumable electrode with formation of the second layer of bimetallic ingot. Prior to formation of slag bath, electrodes are installed in clearance relative to blank at distance amounting to 0.3-0.5 of distance from lower end of electrodes to bottom plate, heating of slag and melting of electrodes are carried out at power rating equalling 0.8-0.9 of operating rated power, up to ingot height equalling 1.0-2.5 clearance widths, then, power is increased up to rated operating value, and distance from electrodes to blank is increased up to value equalling 0.6-1.1 distances from lower end of electrodes to the level of metal bath. Metal blank placed in mold is made of metal of main layer of bimetallic ingot, or of material of cladding layer of bimetallic ingot. Distance from electrodes to blank is increased proportionally to current height of faced layer. EFFECT: increased yield and quality of bimetallic ingot. 3 cl
