FIELD: construction engineering. SUBSTANCE: this relates to construction of towers for wind-driven electric plants, retranslation units, lighthouses, for mounting of water reservoirs, contact-lines, and ropeways. Method implies mounting of curvilinear sheet members with convex side facing inwards for formation of shell shaped as regular polygon. Components are connected with formation of polygonal triangles in corners creating longitudinal strengthening units. Longitudinal sheet components are made in the form of membranes installed inside polygon with formation of longitudinal beams of box section by welding in corners of triangles with shell. Lateral membranes are installed inside shell, and abutting transverse frames are installed outside with displacement of their end face from end face of shell section in axial direction beyond shell limits to distance 2-3 Bo, where Bo - thickness of curvilinear sheet member. Connected are lateral membrane and transverse frames with shell. Each transverse frame is welded at least at two levels: upper and lower. Lateral membranes are fixed by welding at interval between upper and lower levels of welding transverse frames. Width "b" of longer base of transverse frame in flange unit is chosen according to relation: b=bo+(1,4 ... 1,8)d+Δ, where bo - thickness of curvilinear sheet member, d - diameter of joining bolt, Δ - technological clearance between head of joining bolt and vertical wall of transverse frame.
