METHOD FOR PERFORMING COMBINED OSTEOSYNTHESIS IN MANDIBULAR FRACTURES Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves introducing thin metal wire, applying bone supported and forming canals in fractured bone fragments to bring through a ligature, making fractured fragments compression followed by removing ligature and wire. The wire is intraosseously introduced beginning from lower edge of the mandible, its end is left free near the mandible edge. One opening is formed in distal bone fragment, ligature is brought through, compression state is created by stretching and binding it to the free end of the wire. The ligature and wire are removed after making cut along the projecting wire end with alternating pulling out the ligature and wire. The wire is introduced from the inferior edge of the median bone fragment into the distal one in anteroposterosuperior direction. The wire is introduced so that 3.0-3.5 cm of wire length were inside the bone on both sides of fracture slit. The free wire end portion left is 0.8-1.0 cm long. The ligature is tied at the apex of the angle which one side is the wire on one side and mandible edge is the other side.
