FIELD: acceleration engineering. SUBSTANCE: accelerating tube has at least six sections formed by three or more coaxial axisymmetric insulating rings connected through vacuum-tight joint to metal electrodes whose central parts designed for shaping accelerating field are made in the form of planar electrode insert to pass charged particle beam and are relatively parallel so that line perpendicular to insert surface and tube optical axis form angle between 7 and 15 deg. maintained constant within one section. Planar electrode with central hole is installed between sections perpendicular to optical axis; each next section is unidirectionally turned in azimuth about axis through angle of 89 to 91 deg. relative to preceding section. Discharge processes are effectively suppressed in acceleration channel at appreciable (minimum three-fold, as estimated) reduction in maximum energy of secondary particles. EFFECT: improved electric strength of tube and improved operating reliability of accelerator. 3 dwg
