CHARGE STOCK FOR METALLURGIC CONVERSION AND MIXTURE OF PREPARATION THEREOF Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

Abstract RU 2089331 C1

FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing charge stock with desired make-up useful in cast iron casting and steel smelting productions. Objective of invention is to prepare heterogeneous charge stock in the form of standard ingot with uniformly distributed therein solid alloying additives functioning as substitutes for casting and molding alloyed irons smelted in blast furnaces, ferroalloys, and alloying additives. Objective is achieved when in charge stock containing iron-carbon alloy and solid alloying additive, the latter consists of ferroalloys and/or ferroalloy production waste and its content in stock is 0.5-50 wt %, the rest being iron-carbon alloy; or when the same stock is supplemented with 1.0-10.0 wt % of metal oxides; or when solid alloying additive is composed of ferrosilicon, ferronickel, ferrovanadium, ferrovanadium with silicon, ferromanganese, and ferroalloy production wastes. In a method of preparing charge stock including smelting iron-carbon alloy, introducing solid alloying additive into cells of casting machine box, and subsequently flooding it with iron-carbon smelt jet, as solid alloying additive, ferroalloys and ferroalloy production waste 1-30 mm fraction are used, and iron-carbon smelt is poured at temperature higher than liquidus temperature by 70-200 C. Method may also include following operations: 5-30 mm ferroalloy fraction is poured into cells of casting machine box, followed by adding 1-5 mm fraction of ferroalloy production waste; 1-5 mm solid alloying additive fraction is then added to jet of iron-carbon smelt and another part of this additive is placed onto the surface of still liquid charge stock residing in mold. This surface is further submitted to effort at least 500 N/sq.m to immerse solid alloying additive into smelt resulting in formation of solid crust on the surface. As iron-carbon alloy, conversion cast iron and foundry iron are utilized. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 11 cl, 6 tbl
