FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: this can be used as solid charge in melting steel in various steel-making units, primarily in oxygen steel-making converters and electric-arc steel-making furnaces. Used for steel making is charge preparation containing oxidic lumpy material poured over by iron-carbon alloy in which relation of external surface area of oxidic lumpy material to mass of iron-carbon alloy is 5-100 sq.m/t, relation of content of carbon to silicon in iron-carbon alloy is equal to 40 > C/Si > 4. Usable as iron-carbon alloy is cast iron, and as oxidic material - iron ore pellets, iron ore, metal concentrate, scale, agglomerate, dust-like wastes, slag of blast-furnace process, blast-furnace dust. Charge preparation reduces content of residual components in isotropic electrical-sheet steel and increases output of high-grade steel. This is achieved due to earlier oxidizing of metallic base by oxygen of oxidic material, high speed of decarbonization at low temperatures of bath at start of melting, more uniform oxidizing of carbon as melting proceeds, stable content of carbon at melting of material.
