FIELD: mechanical engineering; applicable in practice of works laboratories in investigation of causes of failure and substantiation of mechanism of irreversible hydrogen embrittlement of steel parts with electrochemical facing or without it, and also parts of other metals undergoing hydrogen absorption. SUBSTANCE: the offered method provides for preparation of microsections and detection of additional metallographic features: subsurface hollow and internal rounded zone with cracks. Analysis is made on microsections of failed parts with use of 170-600-power magnification. EFFECT: higher confidence of results of analysis of causes of failure of parts and provision for prevention of premature failure of parts and accidents, and realization of the offered method on standard equipment. 2 cl, 3 dwg
