FIELD: instrumentation engineering, road construction and land reclamation. SUBSTANCE: gear includes base unit installed on land, receiving unit mounted on construction machine and range finder. Base unit is composed of laser with scanning mirror fitted with rotary mechanism providing for rotation about horizontal and vertical axes with drive and unit for installation of gear on land, photodetector pickup of angle of turns of scanning mirror and modulator. Receiving unit has optical head arranged on rod with the aid of rotary modulator. Rod is fixed on platform equipped with level indicator. Optical head incorporates four- section sensitive element with cruciform arrangement of sections and objective lens. Receiving unit is supplemented with two difference amplifiers which inputs are connected to opposite sections of sensitive element, drive of turn of rotary mechanism of pickup of angle of turn, modulation decoder of laser beam, two adders, two storage elements and digital computer.
