FIELD: laser engineering. SUBSTANCE: to ensure periodic change-over of laser polarization, optical length of cavity should be periodically varied by means of piezoceramic or any other drive. Polarization state is changed over while varying optical length of cavity due to heating, varying pressure and composition of laser mixture during pulse pumping of laser. Passing output laser beam through Brewster's plate yields two pulse-periodic beams shifted in phase through 180 deg. EFFECT: provision for controlling polarization of high-power laser due to satisfying conditions at which switching between orthogonal polarization states of laser is implemented. 6 cl, 5 dwg qn
