FIELD: foundry. SUBSTANCE: method involves supplying metal and forming biller in cooled cylindrical die; withdrawing billet. Metal is supplied to conical part of die and die is exposed to axial oscillations. Billet is withdrawn at rate not exceeding product of amplitude and frequency of oscillations acting upon die. Apparatus has crystallizer with metal receiver, internal cooling die and billet withdrawal mechanism. Outer surface of die has conical and cylindrical parts. Metal receiver is positioned above conical part of die. Vibrator is positioned on die end adjacent to metal receiver. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of billets. 3 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl
