METHOD FOR MAKING CONTACT WIRES OF COPPER AND ITS ALLOYS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

Abstract RU 2201311 C2

FIELD: metallurgy, possibly manufacture of contact wires of copper and its alloys. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preparing melt; feeding it into metal receiver; heating up and building up melt onto drawn article; drawing rod blank; coiling it and making ready product from blank. At preparing melt, after building up at receiving liquid copper and filling furnace with it, performing process of deoxidizing copper by coating metal heel in furnace with crumbled graphite and graphite plates; feeding prepared melt after boring and soaking it through overflow device having no contact with atmosphere into metal receiver in which metal heel is coated with graphite plate with opening poured with crumbled graphite; sustaining temperature of metal in metal receiver no more than 130 C; placing in opening of graphite plate graphite crystallizer mounted inside cooling apparatus in the form of water cooled jacket and providing additional cooling of blank in inert atmosphere. Water cooled jacket is made of metal; it has branch inlet and outlet pipes for water. Tangential supply of water into jacket of water cooled apparatus is realized from downwards. In order to build up melt rod-seed is inserted into crystallizer through guiding sleeve of cooling apparatus from upwards. Said rod-seed is bitted in rolls of drawing apparatus. After energizing drawing apparatus rod-seed and cast rod billet are moved upwards. Billet is drawn in mode "movement-pause". Rod after its crystallization in crystallizer cavity filled with protective gas is cooled until temperature causing no oxidation of its surface. Then contact wire is made of rod. When copper- -magnesium alloy is used for making wire, after deoxidation of copper the last is alloyed with magnesium rod. It is possible to alloy copper with magnesium rod having diameter 7 - 20 mm selected according to melt depth. When depth of melt metal in furnace is increased rod with larger diameter is used. In order to decrease hydrogen content in melt and to increase density of casting, it is possible to alloy copper with magnesium rod alloyed with 5 - 10% of calcium. EFFECT: enhanced quality of contact wire of copper and its alloys. 10 cl, 3 dwg, 1 ex
