FIELD: chemical industry, more particularly production of activated carbons from brown coals. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises carbonizing crushed brown coal in pyrolysis gases at temperature rise rate of 20-30 deg. -min., maintaining the whole at final carbonization temperature of 500-550 C and vapor-gas activation at 750-850 C. EFFECT: improved mechanical strength of carbon and increased yield of the final product. 1 tbl
