FIELD: adsorption engineering, more particularly preparation of activated carbon having higher adsorption capacity characteristics with respect to low molecular agents in liquid phase processes of purification of chemical pharmaceutical products, drinking water and medicines. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing crushed activated carbon from coal feedstock. Said method comprises crushing, carbonizing being carried out at rate of 5-15 c/min to temperatures from 550 to 650 C in current of flue gases, cooling carbonizate, heat treatment at 700-750 C without admitting activating gases, and activation at 850-900 C. Method makes it possible to increase adsorption power of carbon during deep purification of water and aqueous condensates from poorly adsorbable organic acids, e.g. formic and acetic and also from inorganic hydrochloric acid. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 3 ex
