FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: low molecular weight polyisobutylene is prepared by polymerization of isobutylene in toluene at temperature from minus 10 to 80 C in the presence of catalyst system consisting of titanium tetrachloride and trialkyl aluminium at titanium to aluminium molar ratio of 0.5 to 100, that is 0.05 2 1.0 mole of titanium tetrachloride per 100 kg of monomer. Process is carried out by successively adding isobutylene when the latter has 10-60 wt % content in toluene and titanium tetrachloride, maintaining the mixture for at least two minutes and subsequently adding triisobutyl aluminium. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 1 tbl
