FIELD: synthetic rubber industry and manufacture of additives, lubricants, sealants, glues and other products. SUBSTANCE: catalyst comprises titanium tetrachloride, trisobutyl aluminium and carbon tetrachloride at molar ratios thereof from 1:0.05:0.05 to 1:2:5, respectively, in amount of 0.05-0.5 mole of titanium tetrachloride per 100 kg of isobutylene. Catalyst retains activity at process temperature from - 78 to +50 C in hydrocarbon, e. g. toluene, n - hexane or the like or halohydrocarbon (e.g. methylene chloride) solvents. Invention makes it possible to prepare highly active homogeneous catalyst based on industrial products which provides new technological processes of synthesis of polyisobutylenes of various grades.
