FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: output shaft in gear-and-lever variable-speed drive provides plane-parallel movement of carrier with levers with toothed wheels transmitting rotation pulses to output shaft wheel. Automatic operation of variable-speed drive is provided by spring-loaded levers. Transmission of unidirectional pulses is provided by herringbone wheels. Teeth of engaged wheels are single side tip relieved. Profile angle and spiral angle of teeth are related with coefficient of friction on contact surfaces through relationship which provides unidirectional transmission of torque.
