FIELD: medicine; clinical prognosis for early and timely detection of complicated course of neonatal period. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is based on analyzing blood from newborn's umbilical cord during IIIrd period after childbirth by determining bound water content in erythrocytes by volumetric/gravimetric dilatometric method, since bound water content in erythrocytes represents criterion making it possible to judge on condition of compensatory processes and on their future course in infant, thereby permitting to judge on infant's development. If bound water content of erythrocytes is below 12.5%, pediatrist makes prognosis on uncomplicated course of neonatal period , whereas if this index is above 12.5% prognosis is issued as to prenatal risks involved in future development. EFFECT: higher accuracy.
