SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to veterinary neonatology, and can be used to assess the functional reserves of a newborn animal. A study of the enzymatic activity of the tissue is carried out. The assessment of functional reserves is carried out for newborn piglets, for which an enzyme test is performed to determine the activity of carboxypeptidase in the placenta. The reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate is used as a coenzyme, sodium citrate serves as a substrate. The activity is expressed in arbitrary units - the number of micrograms of reduced neotetrazolium per 1 mg of dry tissue of the placenta in 30 minutes. When the enzyme activity is below 4.0 units of animals are referred to the group of individuals with high functional reserves. When the enzyme activity is more than 4.0 - to animals with low functional reserves.

EFFECT: invention provides an opportunity to increase the reliability of laboratory research (non-invasive prenatal screening of newborn animals) by identifying the state of increased enzymatic activity of the placental tissue, which makes it possible to form a group of animals with a high risk of impaired functional reserves.
