FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention is aimed at treating water to produce drinking water with physiologically required (curative) fluoride ion content. To speed up achieving this content in water and increase efficacy in removing toxic organic impurities and active chlorine from water owing to increased volume surface contact of reagent with water under fluoridation, a composition is used containing fluorine compounds with different solubility and specified grain-size distribution in fluoridating composition itself and in its components, and activated carbons with specified pore distribution are utilized. As inorganic fluorine compounds, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium fluorides are used. According to invention, composition also contains water-insoluble binder appertaining to the class of cellulose esters with general formula [C6H7O2(OH)3-k(OR)k]n where k (1 to 3) is degree of OH group substitution in one structural unit, n polymerization degree, and R acetyl, propionyl, butyryl or valeryl.
