FIELD: metallurgy, in particular, continuous steel casting for producing billets and blooms. SUBSTANCE: method involves deforming profile of liquid core to reduce cross section of casting, with perimeter being unchanged. Deformation is conducted in zone between outer point on casting axis, where overheated liquid still exists, and point at which casting is already hardened. Profile is preferably deformed between points within portion of liquid mass with concentration of solid granules ranging from 10% to 80%. Apparatus has device for mounting at least one sector to define roll line adjacent to opposite sector in at least one common plane. Casting axis is positioned within mentioned common plane in zone corresponding to profile deformation zone. Method and apparatus allow elongate products to be obtained, with length of products being such, that they may be conveyed directly to finishing rolling mill. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of product. 10 cl, 3 dwg
